Tampa Airport Information
Tampa International Airport is located 10km west of the central business district of of Tampa in Hillsborough County It serves the Tampa Bay Area and is highly acclaimed for its attractive architecture and straightforward design.
Tampa International Airport is Florida’s third biggest airport, handling more than 19 million passengers in 2007 - an increase of 1.5% over 2006. In 2007 TPA was ranked the United States’ best airport by Zagat’s Global Airline/Airport Travel Survey.
Highway 60 passes the airport entrance just east of the start of the Courtney Campbell Causeway and just south of the end of Veterans Expressway. Alternatively it can be reached via Spruce Street or Columbus Drive westbound from Tampa. The airport entrance is west of Westshore Boulevard. On the main highway network Tampa Airport is accessed from I-275 exit 39 and is well signposted.
The airport's landside/airside terminal was the first of its type in the world with four airside satellites connected to the terminal via an elevated automated people mover (APM). The terminal was originally designed to limit the walking distance between the car and aeroplane to 700 feet. This has now increased to about 1,000 feet because of the new larger more modern airside buildings. There are a number of plans in the pipeline to expand the airport as the Tampa Bay area continues to thrive.
There are Interactive Ground Transportation information kiosks available in the baggage claim area near the escalators so that you can arrange your transport into the city. There are shared passenger van services as well as several city buses that travel to Tampa and other destinations.
