You can hire a car at Orlando to visit the world’s most famous theme parks such as the Walt Disney World Resort, Universal and MGM Studios, Adventure & Seaworld or go shopping on one of Orlando’s giant shopping malls.

Another reason to hire a car in Orlando is that because Florida is a year-round destination, beautiful beaches and secluded bays are never more than a short drive away.  It is also worth booking your rent a car well in advance to ensure that you get the make and model of your choice, and you can often obtain much better deals by pre-booking.

Orlando Airport Car Hire

Florida Airport Guide Car HireThere are five major car rental firms situated in Terminals A and B on level 1 at Ground Transportation. They are: Alamo at Orlando Airport - Avis at Orlando Airport - Budget at Orlando Airport - L & M at Orlando Airport and National at Orlando Airport

When booking a hire car check that the price you are quoted is the all inclusive price and that extras are not added when you arrive at the airport. Companies like Alamo and National give you the option to also take out insurances when you book. When you arrive at the airport you will almost certainly be asked to upgrade your car, which can be good if one you have is too small for your luggage, but most of the time you do not need a larger vehicle as the cars in the US are much bigger than those in the UK and Ireland.

There is also an option that allows you to return the car empty (normally called the Gold Option) which saves you having to fill up a car when you are rushing to get back to the airport to catch your return flight home.

To hire a car in the US you need to be a minimum of 21 years old (but if you are this age you will be asked to take out higher insurance). The minimum age that does not incur these extra insurance costs is 25 years old. Remember to bring some ID and your driving licence, otherwise you will not be allowed to pick the car up.

There are many cars that you can hire: Compact (for up to 3 people), Medium, (3 -4 Adults), intermediate (4 adults), MPV (5 – 7 people), minivan (8 +) and convertible (2 people). As a general guide, for a family of four the best bet is the intermediate or maybe even the MPV which is spacious inside which is good for the really hot summer months.

Other extras you can usually order are Sat Nav systems, child seats, etc. Sat Nav is a great way of getting round if you have never been to Orlando before as although t can be easy to navigate around Orlando, it can take a few hours to get used to the large motorways.
