Car Hire at Orlando Sanford Airport

Florida Airport Guide Car HireThe hire cars on offer will obviously vary between different rental companies, but as a guide we have listed examples of cars in each of the main categories.  Boot space in American cars tends to be less than the equivalent UK models, so bear this in mind when choosing which size of car you will need.  A typical family of 2 adults and 2 children with luggage for 2 weeks really need a Mid-Size car.  Also you may not feel comfortable driving a larger vehicle around US city centres so bear this in mind.

As a rough guide the categories are as follows:

  • Economy: Kia Rio (1.6 litre, 104hp) - Length : 14 ft Boot space : 9.2 cu ft Fuel : 26mpg
  • Compact: Dodge Neon (2.0 litre, 132hp) - Length : 14.5 ft, Boot space : 11.8 cu ft Fuel : 31mpg
  • Mid Size: Dodge Stratus (2.7 litre, 150hp) - Length : 16 ft, Boot space : 15.7 cu ft Fuel : 26mpg
  • Full Size: Dodge Intrepid (3.5 litre, 232hp) - Length : 17 ft Boot space : 18.4 cu ft Fuel : 23.5mpg
  • Compact: Suzuki Vitara (2.5 litre, 165hp) - Length : 13.5 ft Boot space : 21 cu ft (seat up) Fuel : 22mpg
  • Standard: Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (4.0 litre, 195hp) - Length : 15 ft Boot space : 34 cu ft (with seat up) Fuel : 19mpg

Fuel consumption given is in miles per US gallon which is slightly smaller than a UK gallon.  All vehicles will use unleaded.

Some American cars have foot pedal operated parking (hand) brakes.  You need to press the pedal to set the brake and then press again to release. All cars (other than specialist sports) will be automatic and sometimes have the shift lever on the steering column. All hire cars have air conditioning.

If you are not sure about anything on the car ask the rental company before you drive away.
